Risky Advertising?

While in Ireland, I noticed that a lot of their advertisements and commercials were on the risky side. Normally all the advertisements in the USA are on the safe side. They are humorous but are not as explicit as some of the ones I saw overseas.  When we visited the newspaper factory, the leader of the tour and presentation let us browse through some of the newspapers that their company publishes. One newspaper, The Daily Sun, I believe, had a completely topless girl in one the ads. In the USA, this would not be acceptable. People would be freaking out that their children would see it. I learned in Europe that people are more easily going over there. Another ad I saw was for woman's underwear. The backsides of these models were shown and their butt cheeks were completely out there. Again in the US, this would not be allowed. US advertisements try to stay away from the sex appeal and nudity so their advertisements do not get ban. When myself and my fellow classmates saw these ads, we had to laugh. We are not used to seeing these around the streets in America.

This Snickers candy bar was one of the many sweet snacks we received while on our bus tours. We could not get over how Snickers was allowed to publish such an explicit saying on a candy bar that children eat. Of course, we had to take a picture of it to show our friends and family back home.

Like I mentioned in an early blog post, a group of us were watching TV together and came across a PSA commercial involving safe driving. The video shows people walking doing their normal day activities and almost getting hit by a car. The last guy shown actually gets hit by the car and blood is spattered all over the place. It was so graphic and visual that we could not believe it was shown on public TV. I will also include the link to this video as well. This video shows how much the US tries to candy coat our commercials and do not show the reality of what can happen. Ireland does a great job of showing EXACTLY what would and can happen.

I found a few other commercials that supports the debate that European commercials and advertisements are a lot more riskier and explicit than ones in the US; many including nudity, sexual humor/gestures, alcohol, and death.
