Guinness For Strength
Guinness has to be the most advertised brand in Ireland. Everywhere I looked, there was Guinness advertisements. Some of the older pubs had the original ads with the toucan. Now, a majority of the pubs and advertisements on the streets have the harp symbol. When consumers see the harp, they connect it to the Guinness brand. This is a great way to establish a brand identity. When visiting the Guinness factory, I was able to better understand the history of its advertising. Many of the Guinness posters included phrases
such as "Guinness for Strength", "Lovely Day for a Guinness", "Guinness
Makes You Strong," and "My Goodness My Guinness." The most famous slogan was, "Guinness is
Good For You". This posters are still seen throughout the historic country. Every single pub served Guinness and every single local was proud it was brewed there. On the first night out, we went to the infamous Temple Bar. I met a local and we got to talking about Guinness. I told him I have never had it before and he was completely in shock. Right then he bought me a Guinness and made me try it. He was like a little girl and so excited that he witnessed me having my first sip. This brand is cherished by the Irish culture. The posters featured a variety of animals such as kangaroo, ostrich, seal,
lion and notably a toucan, which has become as much a symbol of Guinness
as the harp.
It was a great and educational trip that allowed me to fully understand the drinking culture. I knew that the Irish drank a lot, but I had no idea how much. This factory was one of my favorite tours of the trip. It was a huge museum that showed all the aspects of the Guinness brand.
